Special Gems use special gem slots. They mirror some core stat families, but they compete for a separate slot type, so they should be chosen around your most important build goal.

How to Choose
Choose gems for the activity you are actually doing. A farming setup can use reward gems, a PvP setup needs combat reliability, and a dungeon setup often needs enough survival before adding more damage.
